The Situation

What happened to TPS for Haiti

In June 2026, the Supreme Court cleared the way for the federal government to end Temporary Protected Status for Haiti. Roughly 300,000 people are affected. Work permits are set to expire and courts continue to issue conflicting orders — the legal status of TPS holders is changing week to week, which is exactly why direct, fast support matters right now.

Nov 2025
DHS files notice terminating Haiti's TPS designation, effective Feb 3, 2026.
Feb 2026
A federal court pauses the termination just before it takes effect.
Jun 2026
The Supreme Court rules the termination isn't reviewable by courts, allowing it to move forward.
Jul 2026
TPS-based work permits are set to expire — even as new court orders keep shifting the timeline.
What this means for families
Loss of legal work authorization, putting jobs and income at risk
Renewed risk of detention and deportation to an unstable country
Families split apart, often with U.S.-born children left behind
